Your profile – the WHO, the WHAT and the WHY |
Graduated with B.Sc. degree in Materials Engineering from University of Tehran, Iran, I received my M.Sc. degree from University of Alberta with specialty in fabricating non-woven nanofibrous mats using electrospinning technique for variety of applications. Using this precious experience and combining it with the core power of our group (Nano Interface and Molecular Engineering group-NIME) i.e. designing novel sensors, I decided to continue my education at PhD level at the same institute. Recent developments indicate that various diseases in humans could be diagnosed in early stages using breath analysis techniques (more information on http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10000872396390444024204578044401470426998.html). Such diseases are asthma, lung cancer, diabetes kidney disease and the list goes on. The main advantages of this method lie in its non-invasive, accurate and early diagnosis characteristics of this technique. The current technique for breath analysis includes GC-Mass Spectroscopy; however, the need for a portable, inexpensive, accurate device with a fast response is felt. The main goal I am pursuing in my PhD program is to design a sensitive, selective and portable sensor with a fast response time and a low cost. This goal is achievable due to the innovative, dynamic and friendly nature of our group. |
