Your profile – the WHO, the WHAT and the WHY |
My background is in electro-analytical chemistry and surface science, which comprised the bulk of my research during my PhD at the University of Montreal. My research not only focused on the synthesis and characterization of electroactive self-assembled monolayers, but also on their potential application in sensor development with particular emphasis on micro-electromechanical systems. During my PhD, I investigated the origin of the vertical bending or deflection of surface-coated microcantilevers elicited by an electrochemical reaction. It has been demonstrated that the same microcantilevers used in scanning probe microscopy provide an ideal platform for nano- and micro-mechanical actuation and ultra sensitive sensing technologies. This interesting topic has provided me with an opportunity to draw connections between electrochemistry, analytical chemistry and material science, which could have greater implications in the development of future sensing devices. |
