Your profile – the WHO, the WHAT and the WHY

I am an Indian national and hail from the city of joy - Kolkata, where I completed my education till graduation. I did my schooling from South Point High School and later pursued Engineering (B.Tech) from Heritage Institute of Technology in Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering. After completing my Masters (MSc Engg) from The Department of Instrumentation & Applied Physics in Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, I joined this University and group as a CERC graduate research fellow for pursuing my PhD.

My research interest is in the field of Micro/Nano-Cantilever Sensors and Optical Instrumentation. Specifically, I take interest in sensor development involving measurement of deflections of micro/nano-mechanical systems by optical methods and also characterize the mechanical properties of the micro/nano-mechanical devices in the process. I have worked on the fabrication of polymer based micro-mechanical devices by photopolymerisation for microcantilever based sensor technology. I was involved in the optimization of an in-house developed Microstereolithography system used in our fabrication process during my Masters at IISc. To sum up, I am keenly interested in developing optical, opto-mechanical or opto-electronic transduction principles into viable sensors and measurement devices which would push the frontiers of metrology in the micro and nano domain.

Presently am working on advances in Photothermal IR-Spectroscopy involving microcantilever sensor structures in an attempt to develop and establish the sensor platform for providing highly sensitive and at the same time highly selective molecular adsorption signatures.
