2003 - Uni Nats, Kamloops - Bears, 3rd

Our Boys headed out to Kamloops B.C. from Oct. 17-19 2003. After a sketchy snow-storm, one empty gas tank, a closed highway, two dead ends, and a Subaru in the ditch, tail end of our team finally made it to the Days Inn by 6am on our first day of play.

Friday morning brought our boys to super-lush fields absolutely covered in Goose poo. (A recurring theme for the weekend) The Bears started out with a win over UBC 2, then a loss to U of C. After a quick break the Bears came back to bagel Lakehead (with two callaghan's from Paul!) and then a win over U of Vic. Warm-up's over.

Saturday landed the boys in a top-4-super-pool round robin. The results of today would rank the teams going into the playoffs. The Bears started out playing and losing to UBC 1. The bears quickly came out of hibernation and went on to grab two huge wins over both Queens and U of C. The Bears were now ranked #1 going into tomorrow's playoffs.

Sunday morning came about with a first-round bye for the bears and a match-up with UBC 1 in the Semis. UBC came firing on all cylinders after their humiliation at last night's party and started to pummel the Bears early on. The Bears couldn't bring it together on this hazy Sunday morning and despite some hard fought points they lost the semi 13-9. The Bears were forced to go home with munch disappointment and only a bronze to much on over the long cold winter.
