Pastels are paint pigments bound in chalk like sticks or pans. They provide a very soft look to the paintings, much like watercolours, but they cannot be mixed like watercolours and therefore one needs several pigments to complete a painting. Since the paints do not need drying there is no colour shift. They however can me messy with pastel dust flying all around during painting. They are also delicate and need to be framed under glass in a special manner.
The following Pastel paintings are painted on special, archival pastel papers. I mainly use pan pastels with some chalk pastels used for hi-lights. These paintings need to be framed under glass.
