Project Description:

Benthic macroinvertebrates are sensitive to disturbance and can be excellent indicators of stream ecosystem health.  My project focuses on using invertebrate community structure to assess the health of streams that have been potentially impacted by forest harvesting in west-central Alberta.  Study sites are located in Drayton Valley, Edson and Grande Cache.  It is my goal, not only to assess the condition of these individual sites, but to assess the applicability and limitations of commonly used assessment indices in this region.
