2004 - Uni Nats, Hamilton - U of A Ladies, 1st

Uni-nats was a great win again this year for our ladies
team. Not only did
they take gold against Waterloo in the final but they braved the elements
(sleet, snow and gale force winds) like the pros they are. If “ultimate
is
fun, and more ultimate is more fun” the ladies found that out while
playing
many back to back games during the three days in good ol’ Hamilton,
Ontario.
The billets were some excellent students at McMaster University, the
hosts,
and most of the ladies slept cozied up together in the attic. While the
UBC
men’s team slept downstairs. Now that was the smell of team spirit!
The U of A women also picked up players Leah from U of C and Megan from
UBC,
excellent additions….we were all impressed by Megan’s hand
muff, very hot
fashion statement!
Both teams also impressed the Toronto airport with their excellent throwing
skills (don’t hit the arrival/departure signs!) And we all, amazingly
enough,
arrived in Hamilton in one piece (by plane, by taxi, by limo and rent-a-car).
The trip was a learning experience for the U of A female team, with
several
young players infiltrating the ranks and lots of returning players back
to
show them the ropes. In Hamilton we learned how to: “nature walk”,
eat
before
the party, bring waterproof gear and lots of socks, wear dark underwear
under
silver shorts (Alexis!), party till the wee hours… (Dana, Megan,
Alexis
guilty
as charged?), grunt like a pro while catching a throw to the end zone
(Kier,
Nancy, Leah, Wendy ...nice hucks), walk proud in the sexiest uniforms
there,
boat race like pros (Lakehead the offer still stands, c’mon chickens..)
and
how to bring home the U of A pride again. The returning ladies really
stepped
up to the plate in the final games showing the other Canadian universities
why
they want to move to Edmonton. Woot Woot!!
