Weekend in Tokyo
...pictures from September 23-25, 2005
Friday was a holiday so I took the shinkansen down to Tokyo to spend a couple nights in Kabukicho. Surprisingly, the cheap accomodations and interesting mix of people have made Shinjuku's red light district my home away from home. On Friday I met some Japanese friends and headed to Odaiba where I had the best $15 hamburger I've ever eaten and then rode the ferris wheel. Afterwards, I headed back to Kabukicho to meet Matt from Ishinomaki and Dave from Saitama. We wandered around the streets, drinking a lot and generally looking for trouble, until we ended up passing out on some steps in front of a love hotel. On Saturday I just hung out with Matt and checked out Tokyo Tower and Roppongi, before heading home to Miyagi on Sunday after brief stops in Harajuku and Ueno. This weekend further emphasized the fact that I love Japan when I'm in the cities, and hate it when I'm not.
