Mar. 2023 Matt and Xinyue attend the 2023 ECROFI conference in Reykjavik, Iceland.

Xinyue presented two talks on magnetite-apatite deposits and magmatic skarns.

Mar. 2023 Xinyue's paper on magmatic skarn is published in Geology.

Jan. 2023 Miao Wang's paper on stepwise opening of fibrous veins is published in Geology.

Jan. 2023 Qing He, Jiaxuan Zhu and Wanda Czebreszuk join our group.

Jan. 2023 Graduate Wyatt ("Boomer") Bain (PhD 2020) starts a new position as an Economic Geologist with the British Columia Geological Survey.

Oct. 2022 Matt is named a Distinguished Lecturer by the Mineralogical Society of America.

Sept. 2022 Spencer Poulette successfully defends his MSc thesis on spectroscopic properties of aqueous chloride salt solutions. Congratulations, Spencer!

Sept. 2022 Together we Pilar Lecumberri-Sanchez, we host the 2022 Edwin Roedder Pan-American Current Research on Fluid and Melt Inclusions (PACROFI) Conference.

May 2022 Matt is awarded the SGA Young Scientist Award

Apr. 2022 Jackson Barrier successfully defends his MSc thesis on epithermal vein formation. Congratulations, Jack!

Mar. 2022 Former postdoc Yury Klyukin starts a new position as an Economic Geologist with the Yukon Geological Survey.

Jan. 2022 Xinyue Xu, Sinan Canbulat and Guanhua Li join our group.

Sept. 2021 Emily Creaser successfully defends her MSc thesis on anhydrite solubility. Congratulations, Emily!

Sept. 2021 Wyatt Bain's paper, co-authored by Emily Creaser "Evidence for iron-rich sulfate melt during magnetite-(apatite) mineralization at El Laco, Chile," is published in Geology. The paper builds on Wyatt's earlier paper in Nature Geosciences, and documents evidence for a role of sulfate melts in the formation of the El Laco magnetite-apatite deposit.

June 2021 Zhenzhu Zhou joins our group as a visiting scholar.

May 2021 Marko Szmihelsky's paper, "Mixing of brine with oil triggered sphalerite deposition at Pine Point, Northwest Territories, Canada," is featured on the May 2021 issue of Geology.

Feb. 2021 Elements magazine issue on Hydrothermal Fluids, edited by Matt and Craig Manning, is now published. The issue explores the properties and roles of hot fluids in a wide range of geologic settings. As well as editing the issue, Matt contributed to articles on Hydrothermal properties of geologic fluids and Fluids in submarine hydrothermal settings.

Jan. 2021 Spencer Poulette joins our group as an MSc student.

Nov. 2020 Marko Szmihelsky's paper, "Mixing of brine with oil triggered sphalerite deposition at Pine Point, Northwest Territories, Canada," is published in Geology. The paper documents evidence for a key role of petroleum in the formation of a world-class carbonate-hosted Pb-Zn deposit.

Nov. 2020 Topics in Mineral Sciences 49, Fluid and Melt Inclusions: Applications to Geologic Processes, edited by Pilar, Matt and Dan Kontak, is published by the Mineralogical Association of Canada.

Nov. 2020 Matt is awarded tenure.

Sept. 2020 Wyatt (Boomer) Bain successfully defends his PhD dissertation on fluids in IOA and porphyry systems.

Sept. 2020 Boomer's paper in Nature Geosciences is also featured in a press release from the University of Alberta: "Iron in the Fire"

Sept. 2020 Boomer's paper in Nature Geosciences is the focus of a "highlights" article in the same journal, written by Dr. James Brenan: "The Magmatic Forge"

Sept. 2020 Boomer's paper, "A fundamental role of carbonate-sulfate melts in the formation of iron oxide-apatite deposits," published in Nature Geosciences. The paper describes detailed evidence for a key role of carbonate-sulfate melts in the formation of IOA deposits, and represents a major departure from previous views of how these enigmatic deposits form.

Sept. 2020 Jackson Barrier joins our group as an MSc student.
