One of the more common dances in non-ceremonial moments at Svitlana and Vasyl’s wedding was modernyi (the modern one). It is a light and easy dance, always performed in a large circle, so available for participation by anyone, with or without a partner. It is performed to western and Central European pop and rock music. Feet are usually fairly still, while most movement takes place in the arms and spine. This dance spread to this area in the 20th century, primarily after WW2.
