Detail 2

Selected frames from the sequence in which the three protagonists from Jean-Luc Godard’s 1964 Band of Outsiders try to beat the Jimmy Johnson’s record of running through the Louvre in 9 min 45 seconds are blended together and printed on canvas. A video clip from Bernardo Bertolucci’s 2003 The Dreamers, where the three protagonists are trying to beat the record from the Band of Outsiders, is painted on the canvas while projected in real time. The same is done with the sequence where the Emily Blunt character bicycles through London's National Gallery in Jonathan Lynn’s 2010 Wild Target. By clicking on the "Process" button you can see the video recording of the painting process.

Dance

Acrylic ink on printed canvas. 5 x 10.5 feet (152xm x 320cm). 2011 Process Watch movie

Juxtaposed frames showing both the movement of dancers and the camera movement taken out of a sequence from Jean-Luc Gordard’s 1964 Band of Outsiders were blended together and printed on canvas. Subsequently, video clip of a dance sequence from Hal Harley’s 1992 Simple Men, that pays homage to the Godard’s dance scene from the Band of Outsiders, is painted on the canvas while projected in real time. By clicking on the "Process" button you can see the video recording of the painting process.

In Cinematique I extend the techniques developed in Cinecittà from single frames to whole sequences. Selected frames from a film sequence are digitally juxtaposed and printed on a canvas. I paint additional layers by tracing other film sequences projected on that canvas. This process is filmed and can be viewed by clicking on the Watch movie icons.
