Assignment: Unit
Plan
In
this activity you will be required to create a unit plan that could
be used by a science teacher to teach an entire unit. It is a good
idea to choose a unit that you will be teaching during your student
teaching. Use the Unit Plan
Checklist to ensure all of the required items are present.
Components
of a Unit Plan
- Accurate
concept map of the unit
- General goals
are stated
- Specific
objectives are stated for each lesson
- Identifies
prerequisite-skills
- Identifies
the relevance of unit to student (STS connections)
- Provides
the following sequence:
- introductory lesson
- developmental lessons
- concluding/culminating lesson
(These are not complete lessons but lesson sketches, i.e. describe
the lesson in one paragraph)
- Describes
how students will be evaluated
- Represents
a variety of techniques aimed at stimulation and motivation
- Effectively
integrates technology
- High level
of student involvement is apparent
- Learning
activities are appropriate for the target audience
- An evaluation
blueprint is presented to ensure that:
- evaluation of student achievement reflects the intents and objectives
of the unit
- assessment items on the exam reflect the goals of the unit
- Unit exam-
Test items are clear and non-ambiguous
- Other approaches
to determining achievement are explained in sufficient detail
(assignments, labs, participation, etc.)
The appendix
should contain copies of:
