Assignment: Junior High Inquiry Demo

Instructions

Select one concept from the junior or senior high science curriculum and design an inquiry demonstration that meets the following set of criteria:

  • The demonstration must address a common student misconception and/or be a discrepant event where the outcome of the demonstration is unexpected.
  • The demonstration captures the interest of the audience.
  • The format of the demonstration starts with one or two leading questions that are designed to stimulate thinking. This is followed by the demonstration and concludes with an explanation that is drawn out of your audience through questioning.
  • A handout is prepared that fits the handout template provided below.
  • You must demonstrate sufficient background knowledge of the concept and be prepared to answer questions from your peers.
  • The entire presentation is no longer than 15 minutes (about 10 minutes for the demo and 5 minutes for questions from your peers).
