My Issues Topic
The heading of my topic was: Does the library irk you? We need your opinions!
Here is how I began:
Hi. Do you go to the library very often? I'm assuming that as students, many of
you do. Is there anything about it that ticks you off? Do you have any suggestions
for other services that should be offered? Is there anything you particularly like?
In our MLIS classes, we have been discussing the need to figure out a way to find
out if library users are satisfied, are having their expectations met, or are
continually frustrated. I thought this might be a good place to ask. Please feel free
to vent, and remember that there are many MLIS students in this class, so your
suggestions may really have an impact in the future. One final question (the big
one): Do you think libraries need to continue to exist when we can access so
much information on the internet? Thanks. Lindsay.
Here are the first two responses:
- It certainly is a lot easier to access info. from the internet, rather than going to the
library and searching for a book only to find that it's missing or already checked
out. I predict that libraries will become extinct with todays technology and books
will be published only on the internet. Imagine that. Books will become extinct.
Randy.
- I admit that as an MLIS student I am biased, but people have been saying that
since the 60's. My two main rebuttals are:
1) People like books
2) Libraries provide a lot more than just books. Tammy.
