Dr. Joyce Bainbridge

Joyce Bainbridge was born in the United Kingdom where she completed her initial teacher education at Sheffield College of Education. After emigrating to Canada, she completed a B.Ed. degree at the University of Lethbridge , and later an M.A. (Elementary Education and Reading ) and an Ed.D. Degree (Elementary Education) at the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley.

Dr. Bainbridge began her work at the University of Alberta in 1983 in the Department of Elementary Education, where she taught courses in Language and Literacy Education, with a specialization in children's literature and children's writing. In 1999-2000, Dr. Bainbridge held a McCalla Research Professorship. In August 2000, she was awarded the Alberta Teachers' Association Educational Research Award for her research on Canadian children's literature. In 2004 she received the Faculty of Education Graduate Teaching Award. She retired from the University of Alberta in 2010.
