Penn West Energy Trust initiated a CO2-EOR pilot project in the Pembina Cardium Field located in west-central Alberta, Canada in March 2005 and as part of a CO2 royalty credit program established by the Alberta Government Department of Energy. A CO2 monitoring and storage research program was developed in tandem with the project, called the Penn West Pembina Cardium CO2 Monitoring Project. This multidisciplinary research project includes geological characterization, geochemical fluid sampling, geophysical monitoring, reservoir monitoring, reservoir simulations of CO2 movement and shallow subsurface and atmospheric monitoring programs. As part of this program, Penn West Energy Trust provided a wellbore within the CO2 EOR pilot area to be used as a dedicated observation well and to assess existing technologies for deploying downhole instrumentation. contenido Penn West
