2.2.4 Possibility of geotechnical centrifuge studies

• Modelling of prototypes.

  A model being constructed to be geometrically similar to the prototype using the same material, the prototype behavior can be simulated in the centrifuge.

• Investigation of new phenomena.
• Parametric studies.

  Parametric studies can be carried out experimentally by using the centrifuge, since the preparation of the model is relatively easy compared with large scale 1 G model tests.

• Validation of numerical model.

  Centrifuge tests are carried out to examine the validity of the numerical model. The results of the tests can be analyzed by numerical methods, since a number of conditions, such as boundary conditions, material conditions and the stress level, are clear in the centrifuge model.
