CMEGSA Members

According to CMEGSA CONSTITUTION Article 2, Membership in the CMEGSA shall consist of the following individuals:

(a) all full-time graduate students registered at the CME department.

(b) all part-time graduate students registered at the CME department.

(c) all honourary members.

President

Nitya Iyer

Nitya is currently an MSc student, pursuing her degree in Chemical and Materials Engineering Department at University of Alberta. She graduated in 2012, successfully completing her Bachelor in Chemical Engineering from India. She is working on "Carbon Residue Management" at the Canadian Centre for Clean Coal/Carbon and Mineral Processing Technologies (C5MPT). She holds a position in the Executive team of the Academic Women’s Association at U of A and also in-charge of the activities of Energy Club on campus as the Vice President- Events. With the courage and belief to create a difference, she looks forward to work towards enhancement of the technical and social skills of the graduate students by improving student participation and help in the management of the undertakings of CMEGSA for 2013-14.

Navjot Kaur Sandhu

Navjot is a second year Master’s student in Chemical engineering. She is working on post combustion capture of CO2 using solid amine based sorbents. As VP student services,her role is to support communication between graduate students and GSA. She works towards strengthening the connection between various student groups and CMEGSA, enabling us to better serve the graduate students.

Tinu Abraham

Tinu is a PhD student researching in the field of oil sands extraction. She sees graduate life as an important learning phase and thereby, she believes CMEGSA has the potential to play a great role in the intellectual development of budding engineers on campus. Her motive as Vice President Academics, is to propagate the right attitude about education and research. She'd like to develop more intellectual events for CMEGSA so that it plays a meaningful role in the overall development of graduate students.

Meisam Nouri

Meisam is originally form Iran and he has finished his BSc and MSc degree at his home country. In January 2012 he moved to Edmonton to continue his study at the University of Alberta. Currently, he is working on corrosion and wear resistance of engineering alloys.

Sheng Tian

Sheng is currently a M.S. student in Department of Chemical and Materials Engieering, University of Alberta, participating in a novel research project about Nano-Catalytic Energy Cell. Before coming to Edmonton, AB, Canada, he received his Bachelor’s degree of Science in Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China in 2012, where he majored in Materials Science and Engineering. As VP communication, he is building a bridge to connect all graduate students in CME with CMEGSA as well as CME department.

Arash Baladi

Arash is a PhD student in materials engineering, conducting research on novel portable power generation systems. He has been at UofA since January 2012. He is currently VP Finance for CMEGSA, keeping balance between expenses and budget.

Behdokht Farbod 

Behdokht (Behee) is currently a PhD student in Chemical and Materials Engineering department, working on energy storage materials. She has been VP-Events of CMEGSA since July 2012 and tries to plan social, professional and academic events for grad students.
