Objectives:
Module 1: Introduction
The Introduction Module involved:
- The securing of an internet account and access.
- Learning how to use a browser.
- Awareness of the course weight distribution.
- The initiation of "Help" and "Issues" conferences.
Module 2: Email
The Email Module required:
- An email submission and a short critique on Eudora.
- The determination and recording of my level of connectivity to the Internet.
Module 3: Lists and Usenet
The ListServ and Usenet Module required:
- The subscription to two ListServs and two Usenet newsgroups. The portfolio includes samples
of one interaction from each communication forum.
Module 4: Telnet and FTP
The Telnet and FTP Module included several tasks:
- The remote searching of a library using Telnet.
- The participation in a MUD and commentary on the experience.
- The downloading of a document using FTP.
- A description of the process for zipping and unzipping a PC file.
Module 5: Search
The Search Module involved:
- Familiarizing oneself with Archie and Veronica search engines and other more current search engines.
- Preparation of a short annotated bibliography on several topics relating to the Internet. The topics
included copyright, censorship, privacy, security, staying current, and time management.
Module 6: HTML Editing
The HTML Editing Module required:
- Familiarize oneself with Hypertext Markup Language (HTML)
- The construction of this "Portfolio" and a "Research" topic of our
own choice.
- Mount a URL for both on a WWW server.
Module 7: Issues
The Issues Module involved:
- The creation of a new topic in the Course WebBoard.
- A list of the "topics" that I participated in during this course.
- Participation in the "Course Help Conferences".
