Conclusion
Fall and Spring banded fertilizer applications of Environmentally Smart Nitrogen did not provide statistically significant yield increases over Urea fertilizer. However, while Environmentally Smart Nitrogen does not provide positive yield gains for fall and spring banded fertilizer applications, the potential environmental benefits may warrant the use of Environmentally Smart Nitrogen over Urea fertilizer. When fertilizer was seed placed there were large yield increases when using Environmentally Smart Nitrogen or Blend fertilizer sources over Urea fertilizer. Canola had the largest yield increases when using Environmentally Smart Nitrogen or Blend fertilizers for seed placed applications, followed by barley and wheat. Results of this study can be used to develop optimal fertilizer management strategies to optimize yield gains in Southern Alberta with Environmentally Smart Nitrogen fertilizer.
