    CANMES GRADUATE STUDENT TRAVEL GRANTS

    Application Guidelines & Form

    Purpose

The Canadian Committee of the Middle East Studies Association (CANMES) offers a number of annual travel grants to anadian-based graduate students planning to attend academic conferences in North America. The purpose of these grants is to encourage graduate students to present their work in these conferences.

    Eligibility

The competition for travel grants is open to graduate students CURRENTLY ENROLLED IN A CANADIAN UNIVERSITY whose specialization pertains to any field of Middle East studies (post-antiquity). Priority will be given to applicants who are members of MESA, the Middle East Studies Association of

    Grant Terms

Travel grants are available for graduate students planning to present at MESA, Learneds, and CCASLS conferences. Support for presentations at other major North American conferences will also be considered. Applicants may request a maximum of $750 (Canadian funds) each. Actual grant amounts are based on proposed budgets, the location of both the applicant and the conference, and availability of funds. Travel grants are paid after the completion of the conference. Eligible expenses include conference registration fees, airline or train travel, and lodging. Original documentation supporting these claims should be sent to the address on the
application form after the completion of the conference. (NB: Even if you are not claiming conference registration fees, evidence of your conference registration must be provided.)
