Oral Presentations

Once your presentation hase been accepted, please check under the "Program" link to verify the time of your presentation.

All oral presentations will take place in the Engineering & Teaching Learning Centre (ETLC), Room 1-001 at the University of Alberta.

Keynote presentations will be 45 minutes in length: 35 minutes for presentation and 10 minutes of follow-up questions and discussion.

All other presentations will be 30 minutes in length: 22 minutes for presentation and 8 minutes of follow-up questions and discussion.

Please prepare your presentation electronically using Microsoft Power Point (MS Power Point 97 or higher). Technical equipment and assistance will be provided running Windows XP Pro and MS Power Point 2000 will be provided.

When a presentation is prepared on one computer but delivered on another, some special characters, like Greek letters or math symbols, may be missing or replaced with different characters. It happens often when the author has additional font sets installed on his/her machine (like Asian, Arabic, etc). Therefore, we strongly recommend that authors embed fonts used in their presentations.

To find out how to embed fonts in PowerPoint 2007 or 2010 please reference:

http://blogs.office.com/b/office_blog/archive/2010/07/01/how-powerpoint-font-embedding-and-replacement-can-save-your-presentation.aspx

and for PowerPoint 2003 and older, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/826832

Please email your presentation as yourname.ppt file to: OSConf.2012@ualberta.ca no later than August 10th, 2012 and bring a copy of your presentation to the conference on a flash drive.

Please do not plan to use your own laptop for running your presentation. This is to avoid problems with computer – projector compatibility and to save time that would otherwise be needed for changing connections.

Any handouts, if desired, are the responsibility of the presenter.

Poster Presentations

Enusre that you print your poster. The maximum dimensions available for the posters are ~0.75 m high and ~2.2 m wide (3 ft high and 7 ft wide).

The area will be available on Tuesday afternoon (August 28) from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm so that authors may mount their posters on boards assigned to them. Please check the program for the ID number of your poster.

Posters may be mounted using pushpins or Velcro. While a limited amount of pushpins will be available, it is strongly suggested that you bring your own pushpins or Velcro to mount your posters.

Authors are required to be present at their posters on the appropriate day from 4:45 pm – 6:30 pm to answer inquiries by visitors to their poster display.

Authors are asked to remove their posters after the session. Posters not removed will be taken down and discarded.
