Da
Li is the President
of the Edmonton chapter of AIESEC. Majoring in
International Business, Da is in his fourth year of
a bachelor of commerce degree. Da has been involved
in AIESEC for 4 years. He recently attended the
launching of the INSIGHT system at AIESEC
International's International Congress in Atlanta,
USA.
Bryan
Smith is a second
year business student at the University of Alberta
who plans to major in Marketing. He has been
involved with AIESEC for two years and this
experience has provided exceptional growth and
opportunity. In the future Bryan hopes to work
internationally and participate in the AIESEC
program that he has been managing for the past two
years.

Association of University Technology Mangers. Dr.
Murray serves on numerous other University of
Alberta research services and policy committees.

Health Knowledge Network provides health
care professional and researchers with access to
databases of the latest medical information. The
databases are on the Internet and used throughout
Alberta. In this presentation you will learn more
about how HKN works and who uses the service. An
on-line demonstration will reveal the results of
research into a common medical problem.
Della
Jacobsen has worked as Marketing and Account
Manager of the Health Knowledge Network (a view
into the world of health sciences literature) since
1995. Along with her previous experience in market
research, corporate information centres and
electronic information delivery systems, Della
brings a business perspective to her involvement in
the library world. She obtained a Master of Library
and Information Studies degree from the University
of Alberta in 1991.

Creating a Digital National History

Bob Hesketh and Chris Hackett are the driving
forces behind Chinook Multimedia Ltd. whose current
major project is the development of a comprehensive
digital multimedia history of Canada based on the
work of some of Canada's finest historians and
other scholars. A collaboration between Chinook
Multimedia, the University of Alberta, and
Prentice-Hall Allyn & Bacon Canada, the initial
products are two CD-ROMs covering Pre-and
Post-Confederation Canadian history aimed at the
post-secondary market. Thanks partly to
Academic
Technologies for Learning Production Studio
(ATL), the project is tapping into some of the
best multimedia expertise available. Hesketh and
Hackett will demonstrate a prototype of the
Post-Confederation CD-ROM and will discuss some of
the issues related to the critical relationship
between scholars, the University, and private
industry.
Bob
Hesketh is a
historian specializing in the cultural and
political development of the Canadian West. His
most recent work is Major Douglas and Alberta
Social Credit, published by University of Toronto
Press. He has also, along with Chris Hackett, been
active in developing digital teaching tools for the
Department
of History and Classics and for the University
of Alberta generally, and in exploring the
implications of the new digital technologies for
the humanities and social sciences.

Hackett is a

The Next
Generation Internet

WURCNet Inc., Edmonton

CA*net II is the Canadian response to Internet II
and the Next Generation Internet. In Alberta,
research to advance networks like CA*net II is
championed by WURCNet. WURCNet operates Wnet II, a
physical network which connects the University of
Calgary and the University of Alberta and the
offices of the Alberta Research Council. This
session will explore how the Internet is
continually advancing and its applications to the
corporate world.
Douglas McLeod
has worked professionally as an architect,
musician, graphic artist, computer programmer and
writer. Currently the Director of Projects, WURCNet
(the Western University Research Consortium). He
has degrees in both architecture and computer
science from the University of Toronto. WURCNet's
key application areas are health, education,
telecommunication, earth resources and business.
WURCNet has supported research and development in
over 60 projects ranging from telemedicine to
distance education.
