Eddie Lui


Eddie Lui is vice-president - oil sands development and research, and chief engineer of Imperial Oil Resources. Eddie graduated from the University of Alberta in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, and joined Imperial that same year. He has since held progressively more responsible positions in engineering, technical, planning and management disciplines in Calgary, Judy Creek, Grande Prairie, Cold Lake and Toronto.

Prior to appointment to his current position in December 2003, he held the position of manager of operations technical engineering for Imperial's Resources division. In this role, he provided leadership to the operations technical group, which provides reservoir, facility, subsurface, specialty engineering and project management support to the company's Cold Lake heavy-oil operations and its conventional oil and gas operations, to improve safety, environment, volume and cost performance. In 2002, he led a development team within the group to manage the development of a reservoir depletion and facility plan for Imperial’s Taglu gas resource in the Mackenzie Delta.

In his current capacity, Eddie is responsible for managing Imperial's upstream engineering staffing strategies, and oil sands development and research activities. From 2003 to 2006, he was also responsible for leading the development planning activities for the Kearl oil sands mining project. He is a member of the CAPP oil sands executive policy group, a director of the Alberta Chamber of Resources and a member of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta.
