The objective is to implement a data-based, conceptually and computationally simple, controller performance monitor. The technique does not require process knowledge and therefore is suitable for monitoring time-varying and non-linear processes. The distribution of a control performance index (run length -RL), is compared to a reference distribution, to determine the control performance. This reference distribution is built from the actual data (CV and SP) collected during a good control period, usually just after controller tuning. If the RL-distribution of the current data is significantly different from the reference by Chi-square test, the Monitor Flags ‘1’ to indicate a significant difference and flags ‘0’ otherwise.
