The primary cause of downtime or failures in steam generators is corrosion, resulting from operation under strenuous conditions. Stress corrosion cracking (SCC) is one of the most common types of corrosion occurring in steam generators. In order to better understanding of lead-assisted stress corrosion cracking (PbSCC) in pressurized steam reactors mechanism, we have used autoclaves for high temperature fracture mechanics experiments including voltage drop measurements and electrochemical noise tests on alloy 800. We investigate both fresh and corroded materials, thereby determining the nature of the changes that occur induced by lead.
