Research Assistantship Opportunity for Transportation Engineering
[PDF Version for download] The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Alberta offers the students the finest educators and facilities available in North America. A recent graduate program review has rated the Department to be at the forefront of Civil Engineering Departments in Canada. The Department presently has over 50 professors and over 350 graduate students with research funding of over $6 millions dollars. The Transportation Engineering Program provides advanced training and research opportunities for graduate students in practicing transportation engineering and for those who wish to concentrate primarily on research. The program is growing and expanding pretty quickly: recently Dr. Zhi-Jun Qiu, a recently appointed Assistant Professor, has been setting up the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Lab in the program, and the city of Edmonton has joined with the University of Alberta to fund 1.5 Million dollars on the traffic safety related research. Dr. Qiu's research interests include: Intelligent Transportation System (ITS), traffic operation and control, traffic modeling and simulation, advanced traffic detection technology, traffic state estimation and prediction, traffic mobility and safety analysis, Vehicle Infrastructure Integration (IntelliDrive), wireless communication applied in transportation, Geographic Information Sciences (GIS) applied in transportation. The successful candidates are expected to have a M.S. or B.S. degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Control Science and Engineering, Computer Science, System Engineering or Mathematics. TOEFL, IELTS, CAEL or MELAB score is required during the review process, while GRE is not required. Research Assistantship opportunities are available for both 2011 Fall and 2012 Winter semesters.
