There are two broad themes to the research: process systems engineering and catalysis/reaction engineering. The areas of investigation include multiscale modeling, state and parameter estimation, design of experiments, advanced control and optimization. Applications include reservoir engineering, Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, fuel cells, biomass conversion, heterogeneous catalysis, microalgae for treatment of process affected water, cryopreservation, froth flotation of minerals and bitumen, bitumen upgrading, sensing in bitumen extraction.
