The Institute of Pharmaco-Economics
established in Edmonton in 1995, is a research consortium involving the Universities of Alberta and Calgary, Alberta Economic Development and Tourism, Alberta Health, Western Economic Diversification (Canada), the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research, and, to date, seven of the world's largest pharmaceutical companies -- Astra Pharma, Bayer, Ciba-Geigy, Eli Lilly, Glaxo, Hoffman-La Roche, and SmithKline Beecham.
