Telecommunications Research Laboratories
(TRLabs) has facilities and research linkages in Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon, Regina and Winnipeg.
The Alberta Microelectronic Centre
works with large and small businesses from facilities in both Edmonton and Calgary.
The Laser Institute
works with industrial clients from labs in both Edmonton and Calgary.
The Centre for Frontier Engineering Research
(C-FER), based in Edmonton, services clients from all over North America.

The Institute of Pharmaco-Economics: established in Edmonton in 1995, is a research consortium involving the Universities of Alberta and Calgary, Alberta Economic Development and Tourism, Alberta Health, Western Economic Diversification (Canada), the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research, and, to date, seven of the world's largest pharmaceutical companies -- Astra Pharma, Bayer, Ciba-Geigy, Eli Lilly, Glaxo, Hoffman-La Roche, and SmithKline Beecham.
