"Miscible and Immiscible Transfer of Liquid-Liquid and Gas-Liquid Pairs Between Matrix and Fracture Under Static Conditions"

Ulas's research focuses on matrix-fracture transfer during EOR applications in fractured reservoirs. He uses core samples for static imbibition and diffusion experiments for co- and counter-current transfer. He tests the interaction of water-oil, hot water-oil, oil-solvent, and gas-water, using sandstone and carbonate rocks. The experimental set up he uses for imbibition and diffusion mechanims is shown below.

LEFT: Vertical and horizontal direction spontaneous counter-current imbibition tests, and RIGHT: Data acquisition system to monitor the matrix-fracture transfer due to diffusion (it consists of an automated weight measurement system, its parts are scales, data acquisition sofware/hardware)

The second part of his research focuses on the 2-D visualization of this type of processes. 5x5x0.1 cm glass bead models were used for this purpose.
