Professional Development & Awareness of the Profession
It is a teacher’s responsibility to remain aware of the history of second language education as well as current initiatives.
Teachers are asked to contribute to working committees at various levels throughout their careers. From government curriculum development committees to reviewing government documents or textbooks to sitting on committees of organizations of teachers at local, regional, national or international levels, teachers can best influence others and learn and share with their colleagues most when they are aware of what is happening in their field. To help you become and remain informed, please consult the following web sites or organizations for regular updates.
The NGO International Federation of Language Teacher Associations (Fédération Internationale des Professeurs de Langues Vivantes) works in operational relations with UNESCO to offer its members consultants, conferences and other expertise. The web site lists conferences and meetings, projects and publications as well as its history.
The Canadian Association of Second Languages (CASLT) (L’Association Canadienne des professeurs de langues secondes (ACPL) offers direct support to second language teachers, provides a professional networking community to second language educators, and presents a pan-Canadian view of second language education issues.
