Electronic Discussion Groups (EDG) Guidance for Submissions

To achieve a high quality electronic discussion, you are encouraged to carefully frame and articulate your contributions. The following attributes will be used as evaluation criteria for your submissions.

Opinions - Substantiated Your participation in the discussion is evident by your acknowledgment of the issue(s)/topic(s) and yours and/or others’ opinions. Your opinions are based on evidence, experience, and/or readings.

Questions Upon consideration of the issue(s)/topic(s), you have created one or more thoughtful queries.

Compare You have drawn from previous experiences to enrich the discussion topic(s)/issue(s) with similarities and analogies.

Contrast You have drawn from previous experiences to enrich the topic(s)/issue(s) with contrasting situations, thus bringing distinction and discrimination to the discussion.

Idea to Example Upon consideration of an idea, you have constructed a related example that clarifies this idea through analogy or categorization.

Example to Idea Upon consideration of an example or examples, you have constructed an induction (generalization based on evidence).

Clarification, Elaboration You have reiterated and further described certain points or point within the issue(s)/topic(s), thus contributing clarification and elaboration to the discussion.

Cause and Effect You have thoughtfully offered your ideas and predictions about the causes and effects (what-ifs) surrounding the issue(s)/topic(s).
