Welcome to the Leijun Li group in Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering at the University of Alberta! Our group conducts award-winning research in physical metallurgy, welding metallurgy, and additive manufacturing of alloys.

News: American Welding Society 2026 McKay-Helm Award for best contribution to welding of metals: Our paper "Effect of Microstructure on Toughness for CWTSAW Heavy Gauge X70 -- Part 2: Correlating Microstructure with Charpy Toughness" in Welding Journal, a link for free share, has been selected for this prestigious award. The title page is shown on the right. Congratulations to the lead author, Dr. Tailin Ren!

News: Prof. Li receives the 2026 William Irrgang Award, from American Welding Society: Sponsored by The Lincoln Electric Company, it is awarded to the individual who has done the most to enhance AWS's goal of advancing the science and technology of welding over the last five years. Prof. Li would like to thank all his students and colleagues for their support.
