EQUIPP Curriculum:Year Two

The optional Year Two of EQUIPP provides support for those who wish to maintain a close relationship with faculty and mentors as they conduct their own research project. Far less structured than Year One, partipants will spend most of their time at their home institution conducting a research project of their own design.

As a component of The Principles of Qualitative Inquiry, a core course of Year One, participants may have already formulated the basis of a research proposal, which they can then refine throughout the remainder of the first year. Once ethics approval has been acquired, data collection should begin as early as possible in the summer. Participants will then travel to Edmonton in November to participate in a month-long series of seminars, and to provide updates on their progress. During this time, they will be expected to present their work at lunch-time seminars. They will also have the opportunity to gain feedback and guidance from faculty and mentors. These sessions will also provide an opportunity to network with, and provide support for, participants in the first year of the program.

Participants will return to the IIQM again in April, with the expectation that data collection is complete and analysis is in the final stages. During this month, more seminars will take place and participants will be guided through the final stages of the project, including theory development and dissemination stategies.

In the spring of Year Two, participants will also be expected to present a paper at the IIQM conference.
