EQUIPP Research Residency:

One of the components that sets EQUIPP apart from other methodological training programs is the hands-on aspect of the research residency. Following 6 months of intensive course work in Edmonton, participants will be paired with a health sciences researcher to work on one of their on-going research projects. This project will give the trainee real world experience with data collection and analysis. In short, the trainee will be working as one of the mentor's research assistants during this time period, just as a graduate student would. The home institutions of each mentor have agreed to provide support (space, library access, etc.) to the trainee while they are on site.

Trainee/mentor pairing will be based on shared methological and substantive interests. At the outset, a contract will be drawn up between the trainee, the mentor, and the program facilitors to ensure that the interests of all parties are met.

During the 6 month research residency, weekly seminar discussions will be facilitated via WebCT and Web4M, computer programs for distance learning. Through these programs, mentors, trainees, and program coordinators will be able to talk with one another and share information, to ensure that the research residency process is beneficial to both the trainee and the mentor.
