Coming soon - Upgrading of Oilsands Bitumen and Heavy Oil by Murray R. Gray, from the University of Alberta Press.
This text will present a wealth of data on upgrading of oil sands and heavy oils, covering the fundamentals of bitumen behaviour, and the current process technologies, and new directions for technology development.
Available now: Gray, M.R. Upgrading of Heavy Oils and Residues, CRC Press, Boca Raton, FL, 1994, 348 pp. (http://www.crcpress.com/product/isbn/9780824792114;jsessionid=ghf0EriHsFKnMq5JhLBnfw**)
This book is the only comprehensive monograph on upgrading of bitumen and heavy oil, including both primary and secondary processing based on thermal reactions and catalysis. It has been influential in shaping the current thinking about the fundamental science and engineering of these important processes. The book collected a large amount of information from the published literature, as well as previously unpublished data from my laboratory. It has become a standard reference on the chemistry, thermodynamics and kinetics of heavy oil and bitumen processing. This material is ever more important as production of heavy oil and bitumen increases in Western Canada. Updated material from this book is used in an industry short course with Jacob Masliyah that has been presented to over 1000 engineers in the oilsands industry over the past 10 years.
