5.2.4 Method of surface smoothing

After pluviating sand into a model container to a thickness, the ground surface may be leveled off or formed to a specified shape, by sucking up excessive sand grains using a vacuum pump. In the lower photograph, several tubes, which are connected to a vacuum pump, are fixed to a stiff bar bridging on the container top. One may obtain a leveled surface by sliding the bridge bar along the container top during sucking.
