Cone penetrometer and loading device
The loading device used for tests should be able to push the cone shaft into the soil at a constant rate. The axis of the shaft should be identical with the penetrating direction, and the loading device should be set up so as to push the penetrometer toward the direction of the centrifugal acceleration. Loading devices used for cone penetration test are shown in the pictures. The device of the University of Western Australia can move the cone in the horizontal direction as well as vertical, therefore, penetration tests can be conducted at several points without stopping centrifuge.
