A huge centrifuge at Delft Geotechnics, Netherlands

A Delft Geotechnics centrifuge has been operational since 1989. The centrifuge has two 6 m long arms on one side connected by prestressed tension bars to a fixed counter mass of 35 tons on the opposite side of the rotor. A total mass of 5500 kg can be accelerated to 300 G and a smaller mass of 4000 kg to 400 G. The centrifuge is rotated under vacuum so as to reduce air resistance and to prevent temperature rise.
