Research Interests: Stirling Engines, Alternative Energy, Aerodynamics
Low Temperature Stirling Engines are an exciting new research area which only recently in history became viable to study, due to advances in 3D printing and fluid modelling technology. As part of my work term I assisted the Stirling Engine Team in setting up and running experiments. I also modeled and 3D printed engine parts and a miniature air engine for in-class demonstrations.
To save time in the step between running an experiment and getting use-able plots, I also created a few GUI's in MATLAB. Engine temperature, pressure, and speed data (or just general dimensions of the engine) could be inputted and the user could generate chosen plots with a customized appearance.
I also wrote some scripts in MATLAB which were given the volume variations of the expansion or compression spaces in an Alpha-Type Stirling Engine. It would then find the optimal phase difference between the two spaces and produce an indicator diagram and indicate the heat lifted, dropped, and total work out of the system.
