Investigation of the effect of pressure drop on calcium carbonate deposition rate in a vertical slot:

The penetration of oil-water mixture through the slotted liner results in a pressure drop which causes the plugging of the slots and reduces the oil production. The objective of this study is to understand the effect of pressure drop on this plugging mechanism. An experimental set-up is developed to simulate the formation and precipitation of calcium carbonate. It is observed that the drop in pressure accelerates the nucleation and growth of calcium carbonate crystals, and enhances the calcium carbonate deposition rate. The ultimate goal is to estimate the continuous decrease in the slot width due to the plugging phenomenon.

Experimental set-up and design

(1) Two dimensional velocity field (2) Scale precipitation at the flow rate of 200ml/hr and 2000 ml/hr respectively
