A
Questionnaire Concerning Empirical Studies of Literature:
The following is a questionnaire prepared by Sonia Zyngier
(Federal University of Rio de Janeiro). She suggested that her fellow
participants in the Institute complete this questionnaire as part of a pilot
study. In addition, I suggest particular attention to the section concerning
difficulties often faced in the conduct of empirical studies of literature.
Reflection on those issues may help to identify the challenges that we share.
(If you agree to participate, bring your completed questionnaire with you on the
first day of the Institute.)

Teams of
Collaborators:
During the Summer Institute we will practice some aspects of interdisciplinary
collaboration. To this end, I have attached a preliminary set of research teams,
each comprised of three Institute participants and a faculty advisor. During the
first day of the Institute, participants and faculty will have opportunity to
change these groups. But by the end of that first day, it will be useful to
consolidate these teams so that their members can begin to discuss and shape
research possibilities together. Toward the conclusion of the Institute program,
these research possibilities will be outlined in posters that will be displayed
and discussed during a session dedicated to that purpose at the IGEL conference.
Take a look at these preliminary groups--and my impression of the research theme
that the members of each team (loosely in some cases) share.
