New paper accepted! Austin's paper: "H-reflexes improve the fatigue-resistance of evoked contractions in people with chronic motor-complete spinal cord injury" will be published in an upcoming volume of Muscle and Nerve. This work was a part of Austin's PhD thesis and was co-authored by Matheus, Yoshi and Dave.

We welcome Ms. Helen Schimidt to our lab. Helen is a Masters student from Federal University of Pampa in Uruguaiana, Brazil and will work with us with funding from ELAP. This was the same program that introduced Matheus to our lab in 2009.

Congratulations to Dr. Austin Bergquist for the successful defence of his PhD Thesis! Austin has been with us for a long time, starting as an undergraduate volunteer. In the fall, Austin will be teaching motor control at the University of Alberta as a professor. We wish him the best in his future endeavours.

We welcome Dr. Felipe Carpes to our lab. Dr. Carpes was Matheus' former adviser at the Universidade Federal do Pampa in Brazil. He will present ongoing research from his lab in a talk, entitled "Biomechanical assessment of aged gait". After the visit he and Matheus will be attending the Progress in Motor Control IX in Montreal and then the XXIV Congress of the International Society of Biomechanics in Natal, Brazil.

Jenny Lou will be working with us over the summer holiday as part of the Undergraduate Research Initiative. She will be working with Abdul on two ongoing projects. We look forward to a productive summer of experiments!

Paper accepted! Yoshi's paper: "Electrical stimulation site influences the spatial distribution of motor units recruited in tibialis anterior" will be published in an upcoming volume of Clinical Neurophysiology. This work was a part of Yoshi's Master's thesis and was co-authored by Dave, Austin, Mandy Hong and Dr. Ming Chan.

We had a busy week introducing neuroscience to public school students! On Tuesday Mr. MacDougall's fifth grade class from St. Pius X were delightful and helped us with a muscle - based music program. We were then visited on Wednesday by a ninth grade class as part of the U School program. We enjoyed presenting our lab to the enthusiastic audiences and had a lot of fun. We hope it was a great learning experience for all.

We welcome Dr. Abdulaziz Aldayel to our lab! Abdul is a visiting professsor from Saudi Arabia. He has a PhD in Exercise Physiology from Edith Cowan University in Australia. He will be with us for one year.

We are participating in U School which is a program that introduces public school students to various University research areas. We have already had two visits this year and we look forward to upcoming dates.
