Abstract

MOL Report Three (2010/2011) compiles 17 papers and presents research on mine planning and production scheduling optimization, oil sands mine and tailings planning, applications of discrete-event simulation in mining, and software-related guidelines. The volume highlights open-pit mine planning, haulage optimization, simulation of mining systems, and decision-support methods for mining operations.

The report includes work on block aggregation and multi-destination production scheduling, alignment of medium-term and long-term mine plans, mine planning under grade uncertainty, block-cave production scheduling, truck-shovel allocation, oil sands dyke construction and tailings planning, truck-shovel energy efficiency, discrete-event simulation of milling and bulk terminals, and software guidelines for TOMLAB, Arena, and Gemcom Gems workflows. Together, the papers demonstrate MOL's continued emphasis on mine planning and design, simulation modeling of mining and industrial systems, and optimization.
