1. We are proudly contributing in the fight against COVID-19! As a co-applicant, we have received a sub-grant through the “NGen COVID-19 Response: Made Smarter - Strategic Supply Challenge” program. We are developing N95 filtration materials using biomass.
2. Teamed with Dr.
Natalia Semagina and Dr. Ken Cadien, we won the 2019 NSERC Research Tools and Instruments (RTI) grants competition and were awarded $150,000 to purchase a state-of-arts electrochemical TEM liquid cell holder together with the nanoFAB facilities at UofA. The tool will be installed on a cs-corrected JEM-ARM200CF S/TEM and allow the in situ investigation of electrochemical behavior of electrodes and catalysts in native environment. We are looking for Ph.D. students and Postdocs with expertise in TEM to fully explore the potential of the tool.
On behalf of the team, Dr. Li proudly received one of the nine TEC Edmonton Innovation Patent Awards on Nov 28, 2018. In the picture, I am holding the Patent Certification (U.S. Patent No. 9,916,914) regarding a technology developed when I was doing my postdoc research: N-deoped carbons from waste proteins. The Award was presented by (starting from left) Dr. Alex Clark, Associate Vice-President (Research), UofA; Chris Lumb, CEO, TEC Edmonton; David Shepherd, MLA for Edmonton-Centre; and Jay Kumar, Vice-President (Technology Management), TEC Edmonton.
