I am an associate professor in Spanish Applied Linguistics in the Department of Modern Languages and Cultural Studies at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. My research is in second language acquisition and sociolinguistics, with a particular interest in the integration of sociolinguistic approaches with second language acquisition research.

I teach a variety of undergraduate courses in Spanish language and linguistics, as well as graduate courses in general applied linguistics. I have supervised, or am currently supervising, both MA and PhD students working on various aspects of the acquisition of Spanish as a second language as well as Spanish sociolinguistics.
