Kavod & Kabalat Shabbat

Our Sages said that a person is required to (at least) wash his face and feet on Erev Shabbat in honor of this day, to envelop himself in his Talit and sit solemnly and await the arrival of Shabbat. It is fitting that a person changes to a clean garment. One's Shabbat clothing should be different than his/her weekday clothing. The table should be set while it is still day. The house should be lit up with many lights and all the tables covered with tablecloths.

When Shabbat Begins, we call the first prayer service KABALAT SHABAT. This phrase means two different things:
"Accepting Shabbat" and "greeting Shabbat". We accept all the obligations, rules and rituals of Shabbat - but we also welcome Shabbat, greet it like an important person.
That is why Shabbat is referred to both as a queen and as a bride:

We accept her obligations, and we greet her with love.
