Available Positions & Projects

Our group is almost always in need of highly qualified, highly motivated students to aid us in the following research projects:

Official Announcement

1. Seismic Imaging of the Earth's Crust and Mantle
The aim of this project is to improve the quality of seismic imaging by taking advantage of effective exploration-based techniques. This would be a collaborative project with the exploration seismic group headed by Dr. Mauricio Sacchi. We seek qualified students to conduct research in the broad areas of seismic characterization and imaging of the crust and mantle.

2. Regional Seismicity and Structure Beneath Southwest Canada
Starting in 2005, our group spearheaded the first broadband seismic array in Alberta. Currently this project is in close collaboration with Alberta Geological Survey, with the number of total seismic stations to exceed 30 by 2013. We seek qualified students to work with the network seismic recordings and conduct original studies both in regional seismic sources and in crust/mantle structures.

Admitted students are likely jointly sponsored by Dr. Jeff Gu and Dr. Mauricio Sacchi (exploration seismic)
