Organization of Conferences

During my work at the Lebedev Physical Institute (Moscow, Russia)  I (with professor M.A. Markov and Dr. V.A.Berezin) have initiated a series of International meetings “Quantum Gravity”. I was an organizer of five of these meetings  (1978,  1981, 1984,  1987, 1990).  These meeting attracted many famous theoreticians, such as Bruce DeWitt, Stephen Hawking, Gerard ‘t Hooft.

After I have arrived to Canada, in 1997 we with Don Page started a set of conferences “Black Holes”.  This conference became traditional and it takes place in Canada every second year. We with Don Page were organizers of the BH I (Banff,1997), BH 3 (Kananaskis, 2001), BH 5 (Banff, 2005), and BH 7 (Banff 2009).  Average total number of participants was about 60-80, about half of them are from abroad (USA, Europe, Japan, Korea, Israel).

I was an organizer of several international workshops in the framework of Banff International Research Station (BIRS):   (i) “Black Holes: New Horizons” , 2011, (BIRS 11w5099);   (ii) "Black Holes: Theoretical, Mathematical and Computational aspects", 2008 (BIRS 08w5033);   (iii) “Dark Side of Extra Dimensions”, 2005 (BIRS);          (iv) “Spin, Charge, and Topology in Low Dimensions”, 2007 (BIRS 06w5080)  (co-organizer).

I was an organizer and member of organizing committee of international meetings  in the framework of Asia Pacific Center of Theoretical Physics (APCTP, Korea) and Institute of Theoretical Physics UofA:  (i) “ Black Hole Focus Program of APCTP” (2010,  Korea);  (ii) 4th APCTP-TPI joint activity, a focus program "New Frontiers in black hole physics", ( 2007, Pohang, Korea);  (iii) “Gravity, Cosmology, and Astrophysics”; (iv) “Physics in the Vicinity of Black Holes:, Joint APCTP-TPI program meeting (Seoul, 2005), and  (v) two APCTP-TPI meetings in Edmonton (2004 and 2006)

Besides this during past 20 years I was a member of many organizing committees at international conference in the following countries: Canada, Japan, France, Greece, Czech Republic, China, Bulgaria and Russia.
