Re: Objection to inclusion by NASA of all trust employees
The following is a petition from numerous University of Alberta trust employees who wish to object to their recent inclusion within the Non- Academic Staff Association (NASA). This grievance is based upon the following:
At no time were any of us consulted as to our wishes with respect to belonging to NASA.
At no time did any of us give signed consent to becoming NASA members.
Trust employees have traditionally been employed by researchers of the University of Alberta without being members of NASA.
Funds used to pay trust employees do not come directly from the University of Alberta.
We see this move by NASA simply as an attempt to rebuild funds depleted due to lay-offs, and to add further wealth and power to their union.
The roles of trust staff involved in research are markedly different, and considerably more specialized than those of operating staff. It is expected that the union can have no appreciation for these differences and therefore do not adequately represent us.
